Next Accelerator: early 2018

The YGAP Spark* Australia Accelerator is a fantastic opportunity for entrepreneurs who have launched ventures that exist to improve the lives of people in Australia who are doing it tough. All candidates who gain a spot in this program go on to receive an transformational package of support to help grow and scale the game-changing work they are are doing.

The goal of the YGAP Spark* Accelerator program is to turn an early-stage start-up into a sustainable and scalable venture that changes many more lives.

Who are we?

YGAP is an International Development not-for- profit with an innovative approach to poverty alleviation. We back impact entrepreneurs - or as we like to call them ‘local leaders’ - with solutions to local problems in some of the world’s toughest communities. We believe the best solutions are entrepreneurial, so we focus on early stage ventures that exist to improve access to education or healthcare, create jobs or build safer homes.

How do we help?

The impact entrepreneurs we select go through a one-week live in accelerator where their business models are strengthened and they are equipped with the tools they need to turn their startups into sustainable ventures.

After the accelerator, we provide three months of creative support, strategy sessions, business mentorship, legal and accounting help and access to small grants. We also organise monthly meet-ups with the group to ensure ongoing support between the cohort and connection to fellow impact entrepreneurs. At the end of the support phase a Pitch Event is held, giving each of the entrepreneurs the opportunity to pitch to a room full of impact investors, philanthropists and industry leaders.

The top entrepreneurs from each cohort will move into a 12-month growth phase, where they gain access to 12 months of office space at YGAP HQ (111 Swan St, Richmond), up to $25,000 in grants or investment, access to YGAP networks and expert sessions in fundraising, communications, public relations, business strategy, events, legal and accounting.

Who are we looking for?

Entrepreneurs who have launched ventures focused on improving the lives of people living in poverty in Australia in areas of health, housing, education and/or job creation. This can be through a process enterprise (your venture creates change as it does its work) or a profit enterprise (you sell something and direct that funding to social change).

Entrepreneurs who are ready to build a startup idea into a scalable and sustainable venture that changes many more lives. We accept applications from entrepreneurs across Australia.

What makes us different?

We do this work across the globe, so we draw on many examples of best practice.

We provide access to funding for you to draw upon as you grow your venture. We will teach you how to raise the money you need but also provide small injections of seed capital to test ideas through your proof of concept stage.

If you move into to our growth phase, we provide you with office space with us for 12 months, giving you an entire year to get your ideas together, your cash flow in order and significantly scale your impact.

Our program is not necessarily about getting you investor ready. Instead of teaching you how to raise investor funding, we spend a lot of time helping you figure out how to make money.

How do I apply?

"The YGAP Spark* Accelerator is a completely transformational program. It will accelerate the growth of your venture, your development as a leader, and amplify the impact and ultimate goals you have for your project. I started with a basic idea and a hope that I could help others. Following the program, I now have a clear vision of what I need to do, and a strategy on how to bring about the change to want to see. I couldn't recommend Spark* highly enough!" - Lyndon Galea, Eat Up

"The YGAP Spark* Accelerator connected me with so many incredible people who are also doing their bit to change the world. It made me feel less alone in the struggles and connected me to a community of people with shared wisdom and experiences I could learn from." - Saskia Hampele, Gift Box

"The YGAP Spark* Accelerator was just what we needed to take it to the next level. I was challenged, confronted, moved and inspired throughout the process and it ultimately allowed me to develop hugely as a leader. If you do one thing for your social enterprise, make it this. You won’t spend much time writing boring business projections, but you will meet with some of the best entrepreneurs in the country and kick start your venture." - Dan Poole, Crepes for Change

"The Accelerator gave me the tools and confidence to put a solid plan in place and take steps to scale up Just Peoples. I was challenged to trial different ideas and find better ways to solve the problem that Just Peoples exists to address rather than just steam ahead with what we are already doing." - Jo Peek, Just Peoples
